GIBSS Addresses the Pharmaceutical Industry at PCRA Energy Efficiency Seminar in Indore. - Jan 2014

GIBSS addressed the recently concluded technical seminar on ‘Energy Efficiency in Pharmaceutical Sector’ hosted by the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA). Arun Cherian Thomas, Head – Business Development & Strategic Alliances, GIBSS addressed the delegates on the various options by adopting innovative demand side management that can bring about significant reduction in energy and water footprint of the plants and reduce operational expenditure.

Mr Arun Cherian Thomas said, “Rising specific energy consumption erodes the cost competitiveness of major pharmaceutical manufacturing houses in the country and poses a threat to the ability to compete in the global market place. With huge growth in the pharmaceutical industry in the current decade, reducing operational expenditure significantly by adopting proven innovative technologies is essential”.

GIBSS offer Geothermal based HVAC solutions for clean rooms, hot water co-generation solutions and LED and Induction based cleanroom lighting solutions which bring tremendous savings to the tune of 50-60% in power fuel consumption of pharmaceutical formulation plants. “These innovative technologies are widely deployed in the manufacturing units of Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis and Baxter in developed countries” added Mr Thomas.

Guest of honour, Dr DS Mandloi, Director of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, said, "To stand in the global competition the industries need to use new and advanced technologies to conserve energy. If the industries can cut-down the energy costs even by 2%, it will have a huge impact in cutting down the production costs and further increase the production".

He also urged the pharmaceutical industries to focus more on innovative technologies to enhance the energy consumption. Earlier during the occasion the dignitaries released a Hand book on ‘Energy Efficiency in Pharmaceutical Sector' having various case studies of PCRA's energy efficiency services in the pharmaceutical sector of the country

"With the conventional energy resources depleting day by day, industries especially pharmaceutical sector should conserve more energy. Renewable energies like wind and solar energy should be used as it will greatly help them to increase their profit" said VK Srivastava, Additional Director, Research & Development, Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA).

Additional director (western region), PCRA Pankaj Kumar Sinha and deputy director PCRA RVG Rao were also present during the event.
